  • Confirm the role is within ISMS scope.
  • Identify role risk level and information classification exposure.
  • Confirm the legally permitted screening checks for the role and location.
  • Verify identity using approved method.
  • Review CV or work history for obvious gaps or inconsistencies.
  • Verify qualifications, certifications, or licences where relevant.
  • Perform reference checks where permitted and justified.
  • Document limitations where a previous employer only confirms dates or job title.
  • Document follow-up on gaps, irregularities, or unresolved concerns.
  • Confirm screening completion before start date or sensitive access.
  • Record evidence location in Personnel Screening Register.
  • Apply retention and access restrictions to screening evidence.
